These are the unstructured spaces you can use without booking. Walking paths, playgrounds, wheeled sports, and casual outdoor spots that are open year-round, weather permitting.

Sport Fields and Courts

This section covers outdoor sports infrastructure across Chestermere and Langdon, including fields and courts used for both organized sports and casual play. Booking requirements vary by location.

  • Chestermere diamonds - three at the Chestermere Rec Centre, booked through the rec centre, one at Chestermere Lake Middle School and one on the playing fields behind Prairie Waters Elementary/St Gabriel the Archangel schools, both booked through the city. Utlized heavily by Chestermere Adult Slow Pitch and Chestermere Crushers Baseball 

  • Iron Horse Fields Langdon - quad ball diamond, managed by the Langdon Little League

  • Langdon Park diamonds - managed by the Langdon Community Association

  • Soccer fields - soccer fields at the Chestermere Rec Centre, booked through the rec centre.  Prairie Waters Elementary, West Lakeview Drive, booked through the city. Youth soccer is offered through Chestermere United FC

  • Football - a field at the Chestermere High School. Community football is provided through the Chestermere Chiefs Community Football program.

  • Rugby - no dedicated space, although there is room behind Prairie Waters Elementary/St Gabriel the Archangel schools. Rugby is offered by the Vikings Rugby Association. 

  • Basketball pads - several local schools have outdoor pads available outside of school hours. There is a small pad at Triangle Park.

  • Outdoor beach volleyball at Sunset Park

  • Chestermere Pickleball - Outdoor courts located in The Cove. No bookings required

  • Langdon Park - two tennis courts, eight pickleball courts, rebound walls. First-come, first-served, although you may book through the Langdon Community Association for group sessions.

water activities (Chestermere Lake)

Chestermere Lake is at the centre of summer recreation in the community. This section outlines water-based activities, access points, and seasonal use, including both motorized and non-motorized options.

  • Fishing & Wildlife

    • Chestermere Lake: Popular for fishing during both summer and winter seasons.​

    • McKinnon Flats: Located south of Dalemead on the Bow River and Range Road 274, this area offers picnic sites and is a favoured spot for trout fishing. Wildlife such as deer and various bird species are commonly sighted. ​

    • Fishing licenses are required

  • Swimming: Access at Anniversary Park, Cove Beach and Sunset Park

  • Non-Motorized: Paddleboarding, kayaks available for rent at the Chestermere Landing Marina. Kayak launch located at John Peake Park.

  • Motorized - Jet skiing, water skiing, wakeboarding, tubing

  • Boat launch: Located at John Peake Park. Launch fees apply, and boats must be registered.

  • Sailing - Calgary Yacht Club

Winter Activities

When winter hits, outdoor recreation shifts but doesn’t stop. This section highlights seasonal winter activities, including sledding hills, outdoor skating rinks, and other weather-dependent options.

  • Sledding hills - Chestermere Lake Middle School, East Lake School and one along Marina Drive. These are small hills. 

  • Outdoor rinks - Various locations throughout Chestermere and at Langdon Park

  • Ice fishing

Golf Courses,  Driving Ranges, Disc Sports

From traditional golf courses to disc sports, this section lists local and nearby options for players of all skill levels, many of which are open seasonally.

  • Lakeside Golf Club (Chestermere): An 18-hole course with scenic views of Chestermere Lake.​

  • HeatherGlen Golf Course (Rocky View County): An 18-hole course located on Range Road 284 and Glenmore Trail.

  • Heritage Pointe Golf Club: Located nearby, offering a challenging course amidst beautiful landscapes.​

  • 9-hole disc golf course located behind St Gabriel the Archangel school. Booking is not required.

Equestrian Trails & Ranch Experiences

Chestermere and the surrounding area are home to several equestrian facilities offering lessons, boarding, and riding experiences. Availability, access, and registration vary by location.

  • Sweet Talk Stables, Calgary, AB, Offers Western and English riding lessons, promoting comprehensive horsemanship from beginner to international competition levels.

  • Riqueza Riding Academy, Rocky View County, AB, Offers Hunter/Jumper lessons for all rider levels, horse training, and participation in various show circuits. 

  • Sunrise Stables, Chestermere, AB: A quaint facility offering horse boarding, training, and riding lessons for enthusiasts of all ages and skill levels.

  • Fantasy Ridge Farms, Rocky View County, AB: With over 20 years of experience, this farm offers various equestrian services, including boarding and training.

  • Southern Run Equestrian, Strathmore, AB, Offers Western and English horseback riding lessons and emphasizes a positive and supportive learning environment.
