School Bus Registration Deadline is Aug. 1 for Local Families

Families who require school bus transportation for the upcoming school year are reminded that the registration deadline is Aug. 1.

School bus transportation services provided through Rocky View Schools (RVS) are available for eligible students, including students attending schools within the RVS system and students who may access existing transportation services for other schools where space is available.

Families must register by the deadline to ensure transportation is available for their child on the first day of school. A step-by-step guide to registration is available through the Busing & Transportation section of the RVS website.

Register Early to Avoid Delays

Planning school bus routes is a complex process involving thousands of students, routes and stops. Transportation registrations received after Aug. 1 will not be processed in time for bus service on the first day of school.

Families who register late may experience transportation delays of up to three weeks before their child can begin riding the bus.

Who Is Eligible for Transportation?

Students may qualify for bus transportation if their primary residence is located within the service boundary of their school of attendance and they live:

• 1.5 kilometres or further from their school site for students in Kindergarten to Grade 6

• 2 kilometres or further from their school site for students in Grades 7 to 12

Students attending a non-designated (out-of-area) school may access transportation where bus stops already exist within the school’s boundary and where space is available.

Students living outside the RVS attendance boundary must contact RVS directly to inquire about eligibility.

Due to increasing enrolment, many buses are currently at or near capacity. Transportation cannot be guaranteed for students who do not meet eligibility requirements.

2025-26 School Bus Fees

Transportation fees for the upcoming school year are:

• Grades 1 to 12: $415

• Kindergarten: $207.50

The fee applies to all busing services, including specialized transportation.

Students who require a second bus stop will have an additional $415 fee for the seat they occupy on the additional route.

New Bus Riders Can Attend “My First Ride”

For students who are new to riding the school bus, RVS will once again host My First Ride, an event designed to help children and families feel comfortable and prepared before the school year begins.

The event is not a drop-in program. It begins promptly at 6:00 p.m. and will be the same on both evenings. Families are welcome to register for whichever date works best for them. More information about My First Ride will be available on the RVS website later this summer.

Families are encouraged to register as soon as possible to help ensure a smooth start to the school year.
