Sail Into Summer: Kids Sailing Camps at Calgary Yacht Club

Set sail this summer with the Calgary Yacht Club’s Sail Canada-accredited camps, perfect for young adventurers ages 5 to 17. Running weekdays in July and August, these full-day camps offer hands-on experience with sailing, kayaking, and paddleboarding—all equipment provided. Whether your child is brand new to sailing or returning for another season, they’ll gain confidence on the water in a safe, fun environment.

  • Youth Camps run Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm

  • Before and aftercare is available at $5.00 per day (1 hour before/1 hour after)

  • Boats, kayaks, paddleboards and lifejackets are supplied by the Calgary Yacht Club

  • Please ensure your camper comes prepared with weather-appropriate clothing, lunch, snacks, bug spray, and sunscreen.

Summer Camps:

Youth Camp - Water Sports (ages 5 - 17)

• This program is designed for youth 5-17 who want to try a variety of water sports. This camp will cover the basics of sailing, kayaking and paddle boarding in a fun, safe and controlled manner.

Youth Camp - Wet Feet (ages 5 - 6)
This program is designed for children aged 5 - 6 to introduce and familiarize them with the water environment. The course is taught using our sturdy and stable fleet of Optimist Prams. In addition to time with these boats, onshore games and crafts will round out the day.

CANSail “Fun” (ages 12 and under)

A great Introduction to sailing starts HERE! Learn the ropes of sailing from our nationally certified Instructors who provide a fun experience on and off the water. In this course, you will learn to sail an Opti, the most popular youth sailboat in the world, learning skills such as safety, rigging, steering, and seamanship. Both on and off the water, there will be plenty of learning and games. If you have never sailed before or haven't for a couple of years, this is the course you should sign up for.

CANSail “Fun” ( ages 12 and up)

Start your sailing education HERE! This is a comprehensive first look at what it means to sail; our nationally certified Instructors will lead you through a week full of sailing and fun! Get started on developing the skills to get your first CANSail certificate. In this course, you will sail a 2-person dinghy called the C420, a very popular youth racing design. It offers a great foundation for many sailing skills, such as safety, crewing, rigging, steering, and seamanship! If you have never sailed before, or haven't for a long time, this is the course to register for.

CANSail 2 (ages 12 and under)

After completing a week of CANSail Fun, level up your skills by taking CANSail 2! This course takes you through the next stages of the sailing curriculum to develop a better understanding of sailing independently. Our Instructors will take you through the Sail Canada-accredited advanced Optimist sailing course. This course should be taken after you have already achieved your CANSail 1 certificate. CANSail 2 (ages 12 and up)

After completing a week of CANSail Fun, further develop your sailing skills with CANSail 2! This course takes you through the next stages of the C420 sailing curriculum to develop advanced sailing skills. Work together with your sailing partner and learn to sail in all conditions. This course has a prerequisite for recent CANSail 1 certification or a week of CANSAIL Fun registration. If you are unsure if this course is right for you, please reach out, and we will get you in contact with one of our certified Instructors.

CANSail 3 (ages 12 and under)

Designed for our most enthusiastic young sailors, this high-energy program offers a dynamic introduction to racing. Build the confidence to sail independently while refining your Optimist skills under the guidance of our top Instructors. Participants must have recently completed CANSail 2 or be registered in a CANSail 2 course that concludes before the program begins. CANSail 3 (ages 12 and up)

Take your sailing to the next level by training in the world’s most popular dinghy. The ILCA is a fast, responsive, and highly competitive boat. Learn advanced techniques and race-focused skills from our top Instructors as you progress through the next stages of the CANSail curriculum. Participants must have recently completed CANSail 2 or be registered in a CANSail 2 course that finishes before this program begins.
