What Would You Do If You Were Mayor for a Day?
Got an idea that could make Chestermere an even better place to live?
Local middle school students now have a chance to put those ideas forward through the Mayor for a Day program from the City of Chestermere.
One student will be selected to spend the day alongside Shannon Dean, learning how local government works and sharing their ideas for improving the community.
Spoiler: there’s also a mock inauguration ceremony and lunch involved. Not a bad day at City Hall.
How the Contest Works
Students apply by submitting a short proposal answering this question:
If you were Mayor for a day, what is one idea you would implement to improve the well-being of Chestermere residents?
Ideas can focus on things like:
health and wellness
education
parks
recreation
The top five submissions will be invited to an interview with City staff, and the final Mayor for a Day will be selected by the mayor.
What Students Need to Include
Proposals must:
Complete all sections of the proposal document
Include the front information sheet with contact details
Be written in complete sentences (no bullet point submissions)
Students should explain:
How their idea would work and how residents would access it
Why the idea matters to the community
Why it’s important to them personally
Who would benefit from the idea
How they would budget the idea with unlimited funding (supplies, space, staff or volunteers)
References aren’t required, but they can be included. Applications will open on April 1, 2026 and will close on May 15, 2026. Youth may apply online, in person at City hall or by email to cssinfo@chestermere.ca.
Think Big
The best part? There’s no limit on creativity.
Whether it’s a new recreation program, a park improvement, or a community initiative that helps families thrive, students are encouraged to think big about what could make Chestermere even better.
Because sometimes the best ideas come from the people who haven’t been told yet that something “can’t be done.”
Never miss out on what’s happening in Chestermere, Langdon, and nearby.
