Summer Music in the Park Returns to Chestermere
If you’re heading to Chestermere for the Summer Carnival, why not make a weekend of it?
The Wild Rose Shows Carnival is bringing rides, games and midway fun to Chestermere Recreation Centre on August 14 and 15, and the fun continues by the lake with Summer Music in the Park.
Spend some time at the water, grab something tasty from a local food truck, enjoy live music and relax in the beer garden. With two days of live entertainment, food, vendors and a lakeside setting, it’s a great way to make the most of a summer weekend in Chestermere.
Day 1: Friday Evening by the Lake
Friday’s lineup is all about settling in for an evening of live music by the water.
Bring your own lawn chair or blanket and find a spot to enjoy the show. There will also be food trucks and a beer garden on site.
Friday Stage Lineup
5 PM – Just Wingin It
Just Wingin It delivers a relaxed and fun musical experience, covering a wide range of styles and artists.
6:30 PM – Dirty Shirley
The newest female-fronted band in Calgary, Dirty Shirley rocks everything from the ’70s to the present.
8 PM – Lil Brown Jug
Lil Brown Jug is a collaborative professional brass ensemble blending New Orleans tradition with modern party energy.
Day 2: Saturday Music, Vendors and More
Saturday turns Summer Music in the Park into an afternoon-and-evening event, with live music starting at noon and a vendor market running from 12 to 6 PM.
It’s another good opportunity to grab your lawn chair or blanket, enjoy the lakeside setting and make a day of it.
Saturday Stage Lineup
12 PM – Cat Tyler
Alberta-based singer and musician Cat Tyler has been creating, studying and performing music since childhood. With a love of a wide range of genres, Cat has an extensive repertoire, including piano covers of artists such as Sara Bareilles, Adele, Amy Winehouse, Lady Gaga and Elton John.
1:30 PM – Pistol Noon
Pistol Noon combines classic rock with party tunes and country favourites that fill dance floors and inspire sing-alongs. The power trio features Doug Charters on lead guitar and vocals, Wone Yip on drums and vocals, and Darren Barton on bass and vocals.
3 PM – Cream and Sugar Band
Cream and Sugar Band is a beloved Alberta band known for its versatility and dance-worthy music. The group has been entertaining audiences for decades with a wide mix of crowd favourites.
Fun fact: The band's name was created by accident during a coffee order in 1990, and it stuck.
4:30 PM – Twist of Fate
Calgary-based Twist of Fate delivers an energetic mix of hits from the ’60s, ’70s, ’80s, ’90s and beyond. Expect big harmonies, dance-floor grooves and plenty of feel-good favourites.
6 PM – Café Rosé
Café Rosé is the musical lovechild of Ben Rose and the many talented musicians he has collaborated with in Cowtown and around the world.
Born during COVID, Café Rosé describes its sound as “Country/Soul/Rock&Roll”, although if forced to pick just one genre, they’ll go with soul.
7:45 PM – Greg Vardy Band
The Greg Vardy Band is a Calgary-based cover band bringing country, rock and Americana favourites from the ’80s, ’90s and early 2000s. Their goal is simple: bring the party.
Food Trucks and Saturday Vendors
There will be food trucks throughout the event, offering a variety of options for lunch, dinner, snacks and treats.
Saturday's vendor market runs from 12 to 6 PM, featuring local makers and small businesses with handmade goods, jewellery, children's items, baked goods, accessories and more.
What to Bring
Summer Music in the Park is an outdoor lakeside event, so come prepared to get comfortable.
Bring:
A lawn chair or blanket
Water bottle
Sunscreen
Bug spray
And, of course, bring your appetite and your dancing shoes. The latter are optional, but highly encouraged.
Parking and Access
The John Peake Park parking lot will be closed during the event. Street and area parking will be available, but visitors are asked to be mindful of nearby businesses and residents when parking.
The boat launch will remain open.
Make a Weekend of It
If you're already planning to hit the Summer Carnival at Chestermere Recreation Centre, Summer Music in the Park is an easy way to keep the weekend going.
Spend some time riding the midway, playing games and enjoying carnival treats, then head toward the lake for live music, food trucks and a laid-back summer evening. Or make Saturday a full day with the vendor market, afternoon music, dinner from a food truck and an evening of live entertainment.
