Chestermere Muslim Fest Brings the Community Together on August 29

If you’re looking for something fun to do with the family this weekend, head down to John Peake Park on Saturday, August 29, for Chestermere Muslim Fest.

Hosted by the Chestermere Muslim Council, this free, family-friendly festival runs from noon to 10 p.m. and welcomes everyone in the community, Muslim and non-Muslim alike.

Set along the shores of Chestermere Lake, the annual event is a chance to enjoy good food, live entertainment, local vendors and plenty of activities for kids, while getting to know more of the people and cultures that make up our community.

Food is a big part of the day, with halal food trucks and chefs serving dishes inspired by cuisines from across the Muslim world. There will also be local artisans, designers and small businesses from across Alberta to browse.

The live stage will feature performances, spoken word, nasheeds and community speakers throughout the day. For younger visitors, the Kids Zone will have bouncy castles, face painting, games and other family-friendly activities.

And, of course, there’s the lake. Bring a blanket, settle in and make an afternoon of it. With the festival running into the evening, you can stick around for the sunset.

More than anything, Chestermere Muslim Fest is about bringing neighbours together. It’s an opportunity to share food, conversation and culture in a relaxed, welcoming setting.

As the Chestermere Muslim Council puts it, genuine community is built “one shared meal, one conversation, and one warm welcome at a time.”

Chestermere Muslim Fest takes place Saturday, August 29, from 12 to 10 p.m. at John Peake Park, 121 Chestermere Station Way. Admission is free, and everyone is welcome.
