The Drop Is Back This Fall: A Free Place for Local Youth to Hang Out
Looking for a free place where your kid can hang out with friends, play some games, grab a snack, or just have somewhere to go between activities? The Drop is back this fall at the Chestermere Recreation Centre.
Starting October 6, The Drop will be open Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 4 to 7 p.m. for youth ages 8 and up.
The free drop-in space gives local youth a place to relax, connect with friends and spend time with trained youth staff. There are games, snacks and plenty of room to hang out, and youth can stay for as long as they want.
It can also be a handy option for families juggling busy schedules. If your child has a sport or activity at the Rec Centre, The Drop is a place to stop before or after practice, or hang out while a sibling is in another program.
Where to find it: The Drop is located on the second level of the Chestermere Recreation Centre. Enter through the main south entrance, head upstairs, turn left at the top, go through the double red doors, and look for the third door on the left.
Homework Help on Wednesdays
Need a little help getting through that homework pile? Homework Helpers offers free drop-in tutoring at The Drop on Wednesdays from 5 to 8 p.m.
The programme is available for students in Grades 4 to 12, with tutors available for all subjects. There are currently four tutors available to help students work through schoolwork, while snacks, games and mental health support make it more than just a place to sit and do homework.
Students can drop in for the help they need, whether that's tackling a tricky assignment, catching up on schoolwork or simply having a supportive place to get things done.
Both The Drop and Homework Helpers are free, making them an easy option for families looking for more opportunities for local youth to connect, have fun and get support.
