Chestermere Food Bank Food Drive: Help Stock the Shelves on August 29

If you’re heading to No Frills on Saturday, August 29, consider picking up a few extra items for the Chestermere Food Bank.

The Rotary Club of Chestermere is hosting a community food drive from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Seun & Alexandra’s No Frills. Everyone is welcome to stop by with a donation. Hot dogs and pop will also be available while you’re there.

The Chestermere Food Bank is currently looking for a mix of everyday pantry staples, including:

  • Ramen noodles

  • Chicken noodle soup

  • Canned vegetables

  • Chunky soup

  • Tomato soup

  • Kidney beans

  • Ground coffee

  • Ketchup, mustard and relish

  • Soup broth

  • Flour

  • Vinegar

  • Cooking oil

  • Syrup and pancake mix

  • Oatmeal

  • Pickles and olives

  • Salad dressing

  • 1L juice

Household items are also needed, including paper towels, toilet paper, tissues, dish soap and household cleaners.

Supporting local families

The Chestermere Food Bank does more than provide food hampers. Its programs are there to help local families through a range of circumstances.

The Regular Hamper Program supports families experiencing food insecurity. For those who only need a little extra help, the Bread & Extras Program provides food assistance with no questions asked.

Children are supported through the Back Pack Program, which provides school supplies to local students who might otherwise start the school year without the essentials. During the holidays, the Christmas Hamper Program helps families who are facing food insecurity.

There are also programs available to the wider community. The Good Food Box provides access to fresh, quality food for everyone, with an emphasis on healthy eating and building community without the stigma that can sometimes come with asking for help.

Through a partnership with Calgary Meals on Wheels, the Food Bank also helps make nutritious, affordable meals available for delivery to your door seven days a week.

Add a few things to your cart

Food drives are a pretty simple way to help. If you’re already doing your grocery shopping, adding a couple of items from the Chestermere Food Bank’s wish list can help keep its shelves stocked for people in our community.

So, on August 29, grab a few extras, drop them off and stay for a hot dog. Your grocery cart might be doing a little more good than usual.
