The Amazing Duck Race Returns to Chestermere August 22

Get ready for a little friendly competition, some seriously determined rubber ducks, and a fun-filled afternoon at John Peake Park.

Synergy’s annual Amazing Duck Race is back for 2026, but this year, the event is getting a whole new twist. Inspired by The Amazing Race, the Amazing Duck Race will feature five teams of two racing through an obstacle course to collect sponsored rubber ducks along the way.

And yes, there will be swimming.

A Duck Race with a Twist

For the past several years, Synergy’s Duck Race has become a favourite summer tradition in Chestermere. Families and community members can sponsor a rubber duck for just $10, with ducks available for purchase online, at local stores and during community events throughout July and early August.

This year, rather than simply watching the ducks race, the community will get to watch local racers compete for them.

Five teams of two will take on a series of challenges at John Peake Park, including yard games, sports and swimming. Racers will collect sponsored ducks as they make their way through the course, with the winning team helping determine the top five prize winners based on the ducks they acquire.

The racers are fellow community members, and in previous years, local heroes from the Chestermere RCMP and Chestermere Fire Department have joined the fun. Who will take on the challenges this year? We’ll have to wait and see.

More Than Just a Race

There will be plenty to do even if obstacle courses and competitive duck collecting aren't your thing.

The event will also feature a youth vendors market, giving local young entrepreneurs a chance to showcase and sell their handmade items, creations and other goodies. It’s a great opportunity for families to browse the displays, support local youth and maybe find something unique to take home.

Community resources will also be on site, giving families a chance to connect with local organizations and learn more about the programs and services available in the community.

And, because every good summer event needs food, three food trucks will be serving up lunch and treats throughout the event.

So grab the kids, bring your appetite and plan to stick around for the afternoon.

Your $10 Duck Helps Support Local Youth

While the Amazing Duck Race is designed to be a fun community event, the reason behind it is an important one.

The fundraiser helps Synergy continue offering its programs throughout the year, including no-cost youth programs and community-based initiatives.

These programs give youth and community members opportunities to connect, build self-confidence, develop leadership skills, find a sense of belonging and discover their passions.
